McQueen's Live Fashion Feed

Having worked at Alexander McQueen on placement, I was eagerly waiting for the SS10 show in Paris. On Tuesday, Mcqueen and Showstudio joined forces to provide one of the  first live catwalk broadcasts, allowing my wait to come to an end.

I visited McQueen's website to get a direct link to the live streaming but there were a few technical glitches. This meant that many fashion lovers missed the live stream because they failed to connect, including me. Luckily the problem was worldwide and not just my tired macbook, as the extensive number of people trying to connect had in fact flawed the system. A later on demand stream was posted so everyone who missed out, did finally get to capture some McQueen magic. Perhaps next time more thinking needs to done to avoid a system meltdown once again.

The stream was more successful than first imagined, as the creators had obviously not configured the system to deal with huge online numbers. It has also sparked a new age in catwalk shows, as Louis Vuitton will continue in McQueen's footsteps.

Enjoy 'Plato's Atlantis'!

P.s. heres a couple of things that caught my eye...

All Things Magical

At the start of September I did some work experience with Warner Bros, it was pretty brief as they were fully booked with interns and I was returning to uni...but nevertheless it gave me a great insight into the film industry as a creative. I worked in the art department for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

I got involved with anything from with model building, delivering technical set drawings, making cups of tea and assisting the graphic design team.....

....including designing wand labels for Gregorovitch's wand shop.

A final addition to my year in industry.

McCann's Office

In April, I was lucky enough to work at McCann Ericksson.

A global advertising agency network, with offices in over 130 countries, Mccan are second in the top 100 ad agencies worldwide.
The placement took place at their London office in Russel Square.

The office itself used to be a retro car park so the building was constructed like a giant spiral staircase.

Every element of the decor has been painted white with black sketchy ink illustrations scrawled across it. Each illustration is unique, and somewhat random.

Imagine allowing a big friendly giant to doodle all over the walls, that kind of thing. I was constantly admiring and taking in every snippet of 'inspiration', as I made my way to make my cup of tea!

With the sketches and brainstorms scattered here and there, it was almost like being able to roam around a creative brain. It really does give you insight into McCann's ethos and I suppose their aim is to make you feel apart of that.

The Hooligan Of Fashion

In June I started my summer internship with fashion designer Alexander McQueen as part of my year in industry.
So far the experience has been highly creative but with an intense work ethic and commitment.
So as I seem to be living, eating and breathing creativeness I thought this would be ideal as one of my first posts.
Earning the title 'Enfant Terrible' and 'the hooligan of fashion' for his controversial and shocking tactics, McQueen has won 'British Designer of the Year' four times between 1996-2003.

The label is known for its dramatic, gorgeously constructed pieces, combining elements of British tailoring with
French couture. Signature looks include billowy dresses cut in hourglass silhouettes, frock coats paired with
skinny pants, sharp, angular suiting, and darkly romantic gowns covered in intricate embroidery and lace.

I love the creative flair behind this genius juxtaposition and I aspire to the way McQueen is unwilling to conform, effortlessly oozing unique-ness.

As an intern, I work in the Print department for Womenswear in a team of 20 other creative arts students/graduates all currently working towards the Milan runway show in October.

Being a graphic designer I am expected to create print designs digitally, although I have been involved in a few drawing projects.

Overall I really do appreciate the opportunity, not only working for a renowned designer and being given a great deal of creative responsibility... but also working alongside some of the most talented young creatives from London's CSM and from across the globe.

I have 2 weeks left until my internship ends.

Tea Brewer Of The Year 08/09

My year in industry is almost at an end..
its had its ups and downs but overall has been a real learning curve for the future and a lovely array of creative experience under my belt.

Branding/Editorial/Advertising/Digital/Illustration/Print/Fashion/Film

Over the past 9 months I have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to explore the different pathways available in Graphic Design and from this I have developed a great passion for art direction.

The contacts and understanding I have gained along the way has in itself, been inspirational giving me a clear focus in the steps I need to take depending on the type of role I wish to commit to in the future.
