Covers

"This is an hommage (six months in), an attempt to create cover art for every great magazine I own (+ a few I wish I owned). It's never a straight crib and it's not about perfection, the source magazines are simply a playground for my imagination..." (John Thurlow).

Laura Laine

I really love these by finnish fashion illustrator, Laura Laine. Her drawings are girly, yet high fashion chic, working for the likes of the NY Times T Magazine,Tommy Hilfiger and GQ.

Nike + Kustaa Saksi

1948 is Nike’s creative playground-retail store in Shoreditch, London. In addition to displaying and selling shoes, 1948 offers an entire art floor for fun events and installations.

The installation created by Finland-born creative Kustaa Saksi is all about the historical fun journey of the Nike running shoe. The design has a pop-art, retro feel that fits Nike's brand history.

Saksi himself is in many media, including print, sculpture and now also more frequently 3D. His book, Offpiste (2008), features recent work. In addition to Nike, Saksi’s other clients includes Diesel, Issey Miyake, Lacoste, Levi's, New York Times, Mercedes Benz, MTV, Playboy and Wallpaper.

Peepshow Collective

When looking at design companies last year I remember one website in particular that stood out for me.

Peepshow are a collective of ten illustrators, designers and animators based in London. Working mainly within art direction, advertising, editorial, illustration, moving image, fashion, textile and set design.  Their site itself is creatively engaging and showcases their work without the use of extensive levels of flash and animation. It's great to see a company of this size that specialises in such an array of design disciplines.

Samuel Green

What I like about Sam's style is that he doesn't seem to have one.
He agrees: 'I have never been tied down to a particular style and have acquired an ability to adapt my approach depending on the nature of the project, I have always had a curiosity to explore new ways of working but at the same time trying to retain a sense of identity throughout. With this in mind, I want to continue to push my work into new territories and keep surprising myself along the way.'

The London-based St Martins graduate has worked with Warner Bros, Sony and Fallon.

As most illustrators seem to be tarnished with a fixed creative approach, it's nice to see an unrestricted individual.

Linn Olofsdotter

A Swedish born illustrator
and mixed-media artist with work featured as
T-shirt graphics for Levi’s to
wall murals for
an LA hotel.

Her style consists of layered collage embellished with paints and scrawled with ink. I love the many elements to her artwork...the contrast of the delicate and intricate detail against the bold and somewhat harsh backdrops. When looking through her online portfolio I preferred her pieces that incorporated surrealist art direction, particularly those that metamorphoses the subject matter.

Linn now works in Brazil running her own motions graphic company. She is educated in both advertising and graphic design in Europe and the US. During her career, Linn has also worked as a senior art director at a Boston advertising agency.

Past clients include TV networks such as Fine Living, MTV and Anime Network amongst others.

Right now Linn works independently creating artwork for clients in Fashion, Advertising and Editorial such as Oilily, La Perla and Bon Magazine.

I admire Linn's work and her work ethic.
Additionally we share similar interests in the fashion, advertising and editorial industries.
